In-person Chinese Brush Painting Class & Art Exhibit
In-person Chinese Brush Painting Class
I’m happy to share with you that the Chinese Brush Painting class will be offered in person as of May 3, 2022! The generosity of the Presentation School Foundation Community Center (PFS) has made it possible for Facing Cancer Together to offer this class in-person. We are deeply grateful to PSF for their dedication to supporting non-profit organizations.
FCT’s talented instructor, Vartus Varadian, has graciously offered to continue with Zoom for those class participants who cannot attend in person or for whom in-person participation is not medically indicated. We are requiring that all in-person painting class participants wear masks and show proof of COVID-19 vaccination status, including a booster dose.
More broadly, Facing Cancer Together will continue to offer all other services on Zoom. We have made this decision based on the fact that the painting class has been the most difficult to manage on Zoom; however, it’s also the most amenable to a hybrid model as the nature of the group is painting rather than significant sharing of intimate life experiences. In contrast, a support group is by definition intimate and very much about the dynamics of the individuals that show up for each other. Fragmenting a support group into a hybrid group would create needless barriers to intimacy.
Another level of concern for our community is the fact that COVID-19 is still problematic for immunocompromised individuals, so a move towards in-person offerings could preclude many individuals in our community of hope. Lastly, since July 2020, FCT has committed to providing online support services in order to equitably serve the entire state of Massachusetts, with a focus on outreach to communities of color. Our hope is that in addition to online support, FCT will also be able to offer safe, in-person groups when both funding and space are available in the post-COVID-19 era.
I encourage you to contact me with your questions, concerns, and ideas.
