COVID-19 and FCT Groups
Dear Facing Cancer Together Community,
This week FCT’s group facilitators will be talking with our support and wellness groups about COVID-19 and the steps FCT is taking to ensure everyone’s health and safety. Currently all FCT groups are still meeting in person and we are carefully monitoring the COVID-19 spread in the Boston-metro area. Although the risk of the virus remains relatively low in Massachusetts, many members of our community are medically vulnerable and will likely opt to follow the CDC recommendations.
I’m very aware that our support and wellness groups are essential to the well-being and connectedness of our community, which is why FCT is committed to transitioning to virtual meetings (e.g., phone or video) in the near future. We have not yet set a date for this transition but are actively putting the supports in place for our team to engage with participants via phone or video.
I realize this is disappointing to many members of the community and it’s not a decision I’ve taken lightly. I have deep respect for individual choice and empowerment to make one’s own health care decisions, but the decision to transition to a virtual support group model is based on the larger goal of ensuring the health and safety of everyone in our community. It’s a beautiful testament to the vitality and care of our group leaders and participants that they are committed to continuing to meet despite COVID-19. I will be back in touch regarding the when and how we will transition to virtual groups. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
