On February 3, 2012 the Small Army for a Cause awarded Facing Cancer Together (FCT) a grant of $1,080 from proceeds generated at their 2011 Be Bold, Be Bald! event.

The Be Bold, Be Bald! fundraiser is a unique event created by the Small Army for a Cause to honor cancer survivors and help bring an end to the disease itself. They believe that no one should have to fight cancer alone and Facing Cancer Together strives to make that a reality.

The funds received will significantly benefit FCT’s mission to provide support, wellness and educational services to all people affected by cancer, regardless of their capacity to pay. Through professionally facilitated programs, participants become part of a community that promotes hope, empowerment and connection to both the person with cancer and their loved ones.

FCT extends our deepest gratitude to the Small Army for a Cause for their generous contribution!

About Be Bold, Be Bald: Be Bold, Be Bald! is managed by Small Army for a Cause, a 501c3 organization committed to helping raise awareness and funds for medical-related causes. Small Army for a Cause was founded in 2008 by Boston Advertising Agency, Small Army, in honor of its co-founder, Mike Connell, a two-time cancer survivor who lost his life to the disease in November 2007.

On March 9, 2012 Facing Cancer Together was the proud recipient of the 2012 Saul Bernstein Memorial Group Work ‘Agency of the Year Award’ given in recognition of commitment, leadership and excellence in group work. This award was presented at the annual conference of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Association for Advancement of Social Work Groups.

Speaking on behalf of her Facing Cancer Together colleagues, Joyce Collier, LISW, offered the following remarks about the meaning of this award, “Working with groups, and particularly with groups that are grappling with cancer, is a continually inspiring and humbling experience. What an incredible honor to have this opportunity to be publicly recognized by a group of our peers who share our passion for and understand the challenges and rewards of our work.”

Thank you to Whole Foods Market, Newtonville, MA for selecting Facing Cancer Together as the non-profit organization to receive 5% of net sales on February 1, 2012.

It was an incredibly successful day. $5,279.83 was raised to benefit Facing Cancer Together support, wellness and educational services that help individuals facing the challengers of cancer and their caregivers.

A huge thank you to Terri M. Petrunyak, Marketing & Communications Relations at Whole Foods Market, and and the Team Members for their ongoing support and to the Whole Food Market shoppers who also made this achievement possible!

About 5% Day – Whole Foods

Our team members are part of the local community and they are passionate about supporting the local causes that are important to our shoppers and neighbors. First off, it’s a given that each store donates food to area food banks and shelters. We have food; they know how to get it to people who need it. Then several times a year, our stores hold community giving days (otherwise known as “5% Days”) where five percent of that day’s net sales are donated to a local nonprofit or educational organization. The groups that benefit from these 5% Days are as varied as the communities themselves. Last but not least, team members are constantly volunteering their time and expertise to an assortment of local non-profits.
